GROUNDANDCENTER.ORG

Ground and Center started as an idea born from two educators who wanted to do their part to help fill gaps in our education and healthcare system. We currently live in a world where anxiety, depression, and social/emotional learning needs are on the rise. The demands on children and their grown ups’ time/energy are ever increasing in the fast paced society we find ourselves in. With this increase comes a need for space for more active practices such as mindfulness, movement and embodiment strategies to help folks cope with the business of life. We’ve also seen how these widening gaps affect young people in real time.

Christy, having a son with Autism and ADHD has lived the frustration of booking appointments where waiting lists can be up to a year or more out. Therefore, leaving her and her child without the help they seek. Margot, having been working with a wide range of ages both inside and outside of the classroom has seen the challenges that come up when needs aren’t addressed and how they grow bigger as kids get older.

Both Margot and Christy are surrounded by youngsters and their grownups who can use a sense of community with a goal of building resilience and coping skills for life. We all have a role to play, and Christy and Margot have found their role here at G&C. Our story does not include being a replacement for therapy or other means of mental or physical healthcare, but rather a stepping stone, an interim or an “in addition to”. Together, the G&C family is one where we break chains, build community, and provide the next generation with a world surrounded by grace, reflection, and joy.

ATHASHALA.COM

We are committed to offering our community transformational growth while connecting with fellow humans through love, kindness, and education.

Through our outreach programs and partnerships, we aim to make yoga, meditation and healing bodywork accessible to individuals who may not have the opportunity to experience its benefits. By collaborating with local organizations, schools, and community centers, we seek to bring the healing power of yoga to all.

Our mission is to offer these gifts to the world by starting in our own community.

On our property, we follow the Yamas and the Niyamas. The Yamas and the Niyamas are yoga’s ethical guidelines laid out in the first two limbs of Pantanjali’s eightfold path. They are like a map written to guide you on life’s journey. Simply put, the Yamas are things not to do, or restraints, while the niyamas are things to do, or observances. Together they form a moral code of conduct, and serve as the basis of our practice.

Retreat Bliss at Atha Retreat House

Our newest studio partner Atha Yoga Shala, located in Delray Beach, FLA also has a gorgeous retreat space you won’t want to miss! The retreat house sits on a 4 acre property right in the middle of Delray Beach. You can enjoy a full-service spa with 5 saunas on the property and yoga studios, heated, non-heated, and outdoor facilities. Learn more about this beautiful space below in our chat with COO Nicole Acacio.

What makes Atha Retreat Shala unique?

We sit on 4 acres in Delray Beach, FL. and you are transported to a tropical lush garden when you arrive at our property. We have heated and non heated yoga space/studios on property, an outside event yard with a stage and large space for yoga under the stars, a shaded large deck surrounded by trees, flowers and foliage to practice on, have meditations or just group discussions. We also have a full service spa with 4 infrared saunas, a barrel Sauna, and 5 treatment rooms for massages, our shaman, aesthetician, and workshops.

What is the benefit of hosting a retreat at Atha Retreat house?

You can come with your own group and have all you need on property.  The house sleeps 10 with 3 bedrooms all with twin beds upstairs, sleeps 7 easily in shared rooms and downstairs 1 large king bedroom and another large bedroom with 2 queen beds. As a yoga teacher, you will have access to our non-heated space, deck and event yard area to teach your group or you are invited to study with our teachers and take part in any of our 52 classes offered weekly. Plenty of areas for group discussions, classes, sound baths, etc.

What is special/fun/interesting about the location of Delray?

Downtown Delray is less than 15 min walk to the bustling action of Atlantic Ave, filled with shops, restaurants, cafe’s, music venues, etc. There are also amazing public beaches less than a 5 min car ride from our property.

Is the retreat space only for yogis? Can anyone book a stay?

Anyone can come to ATHA RETREAT HOUSE and dive into an experience they would like with as many yoga classes as they need, to spa services, beach time, dinners on the Avenue or just a peaceful couple days with one of our facilitators guiding them through their stay here with us.

The theme of our next issue is JOY, how do yoga retreats inspire JOY?

Funny you should ask. We say constantly to our staff and clients, they seem to enjoy it so much because they are truly sitting in their seat of JOY here at ATHA. Our clients get to know themselves a little bit better, our teachers and facilitators are their true self here and work is a state of JOY as they are in their true seat of JOY in their practices.  I can honestly say that an experience here at ATHA SHALA and staying at ATHA RETREAT HOUSE and self care at the ATHA SPA creates JOY! Come stay with us and find your seat of JOY

Flooded with natural light and teeming with plants, our 6,000 square foot, bi-level space is a serene oasis. Our two spacious studios feature healing, restorative Himalayan salt walls and artfully-curated lighting systems. Our state-of-the-art locker rooms are outfitted with 12 showers, stocked with clean, all-natural bath products. Our café offers healthy bites and beverage options to help nourish and fuel you throughout your day.

Our interiors are curated with the utmost care and attention to detail, adhering to the principles of biophilic design—a concept that celebrates the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the natural world, encouraging a deeper connection with nature that strengthens our intuition, restores our natural rhythms, and promotes tranquility.

Share with us what you love about what you do:
When I opened in 2014, it was to share love with others through the practice of yoga. You will see signs everywhere in the studio about love as reminders. It is because of the love and support of yogis that Come To Life Yoga and Sound Healing still exists after a pandemic and two major hurricanes that damaged the studio. I tell students to remember to love who they are first so they can love others. We find in yoga that it is a union of love. I have learned that unity and community provides us love.

Share with us what you have learned about LOVE:
Love is everything and everyone. If you love everything and everyone it brings you peace and fulfillment.

What inspired you to support Yoga Love Magazine?
When I found Yoga Love Magazine and was told the issue was about love, I knew I had to join it and help them reach others too. I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful cause.  to grow together.
