BIG BEAR YOGA FESTIVAL
Looking for something to do this May? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Carey King from the nonprofit Uptown Grand Central and Tony Rahsaan from TBo Harlem, who are co-producers for Harlem Wellness Festival taking place in Harlem, NYC who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to get complimentary copies of our magazine at this festival!

What makes this year’s festival unique?
The last time this festival took place, it was just after the pandemic, when some half of Harlem’s fitness and wellness and businesses closed for good. This year’s festival is a celebration of the businesses that have persevered for decades or more, as well as the many new fitness and wellness spaces that have opened in the past few years.

Share with us what you LOVE about your festival location?
Marcus Garvey Park is a green oasis in Harlem, located centrally between East and West Harlem, and surrounded by the brownstones of the Mt. Morris Park Historic District.

The theme of our issue this year is JOY, how do yoga festivals inspire JOY?
This festival brings joy because it is a celebration of the strong minority and women owned wellness community that Harlem has built over the past few decades.

SPOTLIGHT FESTIVAL: The OM Festival

JULY 24-28, 2024
Arlington, Vermont

FESTIVALS

BIG BEAR YOGA FESTIVAL
Looking for something to do this July? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Samantha Grout, Founder of the OM festival in Arlington, VT who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to pick up complimentary copies of our magazine at this festival! We asked them to share some thoughts on JOY, which is also the theme of our new issue and this is what they shared:

“Joy, on the scale of consciousness, rings in at a whopping 540. This is above love and just short of enlightenment. Joy is an inner feeling of excitement, happiness, hope, appreciation, love, enjoyment and so much more. Often joy is brought about through “lightening up” aka humor. Laughter is a literal physical expression of joy. The body shakes and increases its own vibratory level. When you laugh, your face smiles, your eyes light up, and sometimes water. We believe the world needs more love, light, and laughter.

One of Om’s main goals is to allow each attendee, each performer, each vendor, and each teacher to join together in a group mastermind, anchoring our festival within the ethereal hills of Vermont – raising the collective and spreading joy not just to those who join with us, but to start a ripple that can spill out into the world.”

What to expect at The OM Festival:
Southern Vermont is no stranger to yoga festivals and fun immersive events as there was previously a major yoga festival that ran for nearly a decade at the Stratton Mountain Resort. It drew thousands of yoga enthusiasts yearly to Manchester and the surrounding mountain areas seeking to get their downward-facing dog on and enjoy the resplendent views and crisp clean fresh air.  The problem was that when the pandemic hit – all of this came to a grinding halt. This left a massive void.

Sam Grout, a sixth-generation Vermonter, yogi, entrepreneur, and techie had a vision to fill that void and start a new chapter in Vermont to continue this tradition of yoga, good food, and building community.  Sam is the Co-Founder of The OM Festival – a transformative retreat experience for your sacred soul.  She and the rest of the Omies are here to invite you to visit Vermont and experience that same beautiful Wanderlust spirit living in the rolling hills of West Arlington. This is where the new chapter began with the first annual OM Festival hosted at the West Mountain Inn in 2023.  It is again that time of year! The mountains are calling, and it is “Time to Go OM.”

This epic, multi-day, family-friendly yoga, music, and wellness festival brings an amazing combination of yoga, music, workshops, and outdoor adventure to yoga lovers, families, foodies, and outdoor adventure seekers. This is the ultimate opportunity to experience an outdoor yoga and wellness festival in the breathtakingly beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont.

The 2024 festival lineup will feature more than 60+ classes and workshops, numerous guided hikes and nature walks such as mushroom identification, farm-to-table dinners, wine tastings, wood-fired pizza nights and more.

This festival boasts an unparalleled lineup of local and international yoga teachers, kirtan artists, and bhakti musicians from around the world. There will also be flow artists, meditation instructors and talented performing artists such as fire dancers. Attendees can practice and learn various styles of yoga (at all levels), outdoor activities such as SUP yoga, hula hooping, slack-lining, and more, or indulge in local farm fresh food from Jamaican Jewelz, cold-pressed organic Kombucha from Baby Kombucha or relax in the Enchanted Forest Spa with spa treatments from The Alchemist Laboratory, Well Balanced Massage and Maggie’s Healing Path where our attendees can enjoy a  facial, massage, healing treatment and/or reiki session. Be sure to check out OM Botanicals amazing all-natural products in our Vendor Village as well as check out Boston Vibrations huge selection of singing bowls to the cool clothing from Kava Threads and Kukui Maca an all-inclusive bohemian boutique.

Kids under 12 will be admitted FREE. A five-day all-access pass starts at $499, 3-day passes are $399 and there are day passes as well as music passes that will give you entrance to all classes, workshops, vendor village, spa tent, and nightly entertainment.

What makes this year’s festival unique?
We’ve gone deep into yoga and nervous system regulation featuring sessions like Yoga & Lymphatics and more from Tiffany Cruikshank (who rarely teaches at festivals!), Reversing Sympathetic Nervous System Dominance, Polyvagal Theory and many others, along with unique and fun offerings like Sianna Sherman’s Yogi Happy Hour & Hypno Trance. And of course all of our signature outdoor adventures like the hike to the top of Smith Rock, forest bathing, paddle boarding and the river plunge.

Share with us what you LOVE about your festival location?
I love the convenience and the beauty: the evergreen forest, the Deschutes river, the Riverbend Park, historic downtown — it’s all together, easy to access and get around. Makes our attendees’ festival experience as stress-less as possible!

The theme of our issue this year is JOY, how do yoga festivals inspire JOY?
As we get older, it’s easier and easier to forget how important it is to intentionally build into your life experiences that foreground joy. Children find and access joy with such ease;it’s their natural state. For adults, there are so many stressors every day that it becomes harder and harder to both be available to joyful moments (our sympathetic nervous systems are mostly dominant during our waking lives), AND our daily experiences are often so draining. At the BYF, all of that drops away. There’s deep self-nurture and removal of stressors; the nervous system shifts into a parasympathetic state, so we become calm enough to be playful — fully available for connection and joy. It’s a beautiful thing! For me personally, as the founder of the festival, my joy comes from looking out at the beautiful souls around me during the event and seeing so many happy people, radiant with joy, deeply present in the moment.

BIG BEAR YOGA FESTIVAL
Looking for something to do this July? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Krystal Denham, Creator and Director of Free State Yoga Festival taking place in Lawrence, KS who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to get complimentary copies of our magazine at this festival!

What makes this year’s festival unique?
The third annual Free State Yoga Festival offers a day of soul-nourishing, authentic connections through yoga and nature. Past attendees have described it as healing, the best day ever, an unexpected treasure, and a magical reset for the mind. Every student will be provided with an organic cotton yoga mat bag from the Free State Yoga Festival, along with a festival wellness guide and integration workbook. Additionally, they will receive a one-class pass to supporting studios.

The day is truly enchanting, and we carefully curated this year’s festival. We commence with “Call the Winds,” a serene ceremony harnessing Earth’s energy to commune with Chihowa spirits, blessing our festivities. The initial three hours were dedicated to communal activities before venturing into personalized healing ventures. Following the ceremony, we geared up for a 5K fun run, preceded by partner stretch sessions. After a 15-minute warm-up, we immersed ourselves in a day full of healing experiences. The 5K route, traversing the retreat center’s land and forest, allowed participants to run, skip, walk, cartwheel, and more, engaging with nature and their inner child. Laughter filled the air as students paused at the tribal yell station, some shouting affirmations like “I love myself!” – a testament to the pure joy and mindfulness cultivated throughout the day. Leanne leads the live music community yoga flow, infusing her diverse background experiences into her teachings. From storytelling to hands-on assistance, she intertwines ancient wisdom with modern-day practices, imbuing them with humor, humility, and grace. Her classes serve as gentle reminders of self-love, resilience, strength, and unity. The live music accompaniment features a blend of percussion and sound healing instruments, enhancing the practice’s depth.

Following the community session, we embark on five hours of personalized practice, offering 5 to 6 healing modalities for exploration. Thirty-minute breaks between sessions allow students to rejuvenate and access additional healing services for their mind, body, and soul through our health and wellness partners. Each session provides a space for interactive wellness, conversation, and opportunities like SUP Yoga and local healing practices. At 6:35 PM, we come together for a 20-minute dance party, integrating the day’s experiences into our beings, leading up to the festival giveaway drawing and closing ceremony featuring live music, sunset meditation, and breathwork.

Share with us what you LOVE about your festival location?
The retreat center is situated about 10 miles from Lawrence, Kansas, an eclectic town with a deep appreciation for yoga and healing practices. Having been rebuilt, it provides an ideal backdrop for a transformative day of healing and self-discovery. The Chihowa forest surrounding us offers a serene environment for outdoor yoga, meditation, and breathwork sessions.

The theme of our issue this year is JOY, how do yoga festivals inspire JOY?
Yoga festivals empower students to explore various yoga practices, along with other healing modalities, to find the teachers and community that deeply resonate with their soul.
