BIG BEAR YOGA FESTIVAL
Looking for something to do this June? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Heather Viniar, visionary of International Yoga Day Fest (one of Sunshine Wellness Fests) taking place in Carlin Park, FLA who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to get complimentary copies of our magazine at this festival! The event is free for all to attend, and classes at International Yoga Day Fest are donation based, with proceeds going to Paws 4 Liberty. Here’s where to RSVP and donate

What inspired you to create a festival?
I was inspired to create a festival because I’m a connector. I connect people with their breath, with their body, and with one another. There’s nothing more fueling for me than generously listening to those around me and hearing ways I can connect them to people which miraculously just brings people together in a way that supports and benefits all.

What makes your festival unique?
What makes Sunshine Wellness Fests unique is that they create community, support local businesses, create healing, wellness, and FUN for all, and most importantly, each event gives back to a local organization that deserves a little extra love for what they do. International Yoga Day Fest 2023 is donating a portion of the proceeds to Paws 4 Liberty, a local non-profit that trains service dogs for Veterans at no cost. They are up to something so special, providing a valuable and meaningful service for the community.

We have some amazing sponsors supporting the event this year including TruWellnessMD, Bill Barbosa Photography, Collaborated Wellness Cryo, Thrive Power Yoga Palm Beach and more to be announced soon!

What offering/presenter or class are you most excited about for this year’s event?

The aspect I’m most excited for at International Yoga Day Fest 2023 is that the location the event is facing and the time of day it’s at, the sun will be setting while classes go on, especially our final class which is a community sound bath/meditation. It is going to be an incredible sight to see, and an incredible energy to experience.

Looking for something to do this Fall? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Crystal Borup, Co-Founder of  Teton Yoga Festival in Idaho who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to pick up complimentary copies of our LOVE issue at this festival!

What inspired you to create a festival?
It all started with the desire to create something meaningful and to make an impact both locally and globally. We knew to be successful, we had to have an open heart and open mind, allowing things to unfold organically. So we set our intentions and trusted that we would be guided to create an experience that was more magical than we could have ever imagined.

What makes your festival unique?
We are committed to making a local and global impact.

Local impact: We will be providing education about our local land, ley lines, mountain ranges, wildlife, and the Yellowstone network. We will be honoring our land through ceremony and meditation. We are supporting local farms, raising awareness for their generous efforts to support the health and well-being of our community, and providing education about the importance of organic and biodynamic farming. We will also be raising money for the next generation, by supporting Mountain Roots Education, a local nonprofit that focuses on bringing gardens and greenhouses into our local schools, and educating about sustainable living.

Why we’ve partnered with Mountain Roots Education: We feel strongly that we need to focus on the next generation. Mother Earth depends on us more than ever to make change. Children are the future and it’s important that they are connected to the earth, and understand the importance of healthy and sustainable living. Mountain Roots Education has been partnering with schools and the community  to enrich lives and build sustainable communities by offering hands-on experiences in gardens, farms and wild places. They focus on school gardens and adult workshops for sustainable living.

Global impact: We plan to bring awareness to the ripple effect and how one person can make a difference in the world. We will be leading intentional healing meditations for our planet and humanity. We will be providing conscious experiences in nature while bringing awareness to the healing benefits that are available through connecting with mother earth. The TYF is an inclusive experience that honors all beings, living creatures, wildlife, nature, and our planet. We will be providing education on the true meaning of yoga, while creating opportunities for deep experiences of union.

We are offering two ticket options:
Leaders of Unity Package $695: The Leaders of Unity Package begins Thursday September 7th at 4pm and ends on Sunday September 10th at 4pm, and includes all main festival offerings mentioned above (classes, workshops, lectures, talks, music and dance), additional yoga classes, a farm to table dinner, access to guest speakers, and a welcome gift bag. A percentage of the proceeds from your ticket will go to support Mountain Roots Education, a local non profit that focuses on bringing gardens and greenhouses into our local schools, and educating the community on sustainable living.

All Access Festival Pass $395: The All Access Festival Class includes all main festival offerings mentioned above (classes, workshops, lectures, talks, music and dance) and begins Friday September 8 at 4pm, and ends on Sunday September 10th at 4pm.

Our valley (Teton Valley, ID) sits between the Grand Teton National Park, Targhee National Forest and the Big Hole Mountains. We are located one mile from the Wyoming border, 30 miles from Jackson Hole, and about 70 miles from Yellowstone National Park.

What offering/presenter or class are you most excited about for this year’s event?
There are so many that I am excited about, and we will be announcing our first round of presenters very soon, so I don’t want to give too much away. But, if I had to choose one offering, it would be the Farm to Table dinner, which is included in the Leaders of Unity Package and will be held the night before the main festival. We have partnered with local farms, and an incredible local chef. We will have live music, and guest speakers.

A few other things to note is that we are working with the local tribe to do an opening and closing ceremony for the festival and we have some wonderful, heart centered, and talented musicians we are excited about. More to come!

Looking for something to do this July? We are thrilled yoga festivals are back and can’t wait to check out all the amazing events taking place around the world. This week we had a chance to connect with Samantha Grout, Founder of the OM festival in Arlington, VT who we are thrilled to partner with! You will be able to pick up complimentary copies of our magazine at this festival!

What inspired you to create a festival?
Hi my name is  Samantha Grout, I am Executive Producer and Co-Founder of The OM Festival, Experience, and Summer Retreat. I am the Founder of a wildly successful Yoga Fun Day which is The Premiere Yoga Festival in South Florida. I wanted to bring some of the magic up north to my home in Vermont and have a destination festival retreat experience take place in the mountains of Vermont.

So many people right now are elevating their level of consciousness, and yet we are so scattered all over the USA and the world. The OM Festival is intended to help all of us gather together and find our tribe. We are holding sacred space for enrichment, mindfulness, self-awareness, socialization, yoga, hiking, exploring nature, music, great food, and frankly a whole lot of fun!

What makes your festival unique?
The OM Festival is being held at The historic West Mountain Inn in Arlington, Vermont. This charming, enchanting hidden treasure of a town was once the capital of Vermont. With 150 acres of open untouched woodlands and fields, you truly feel at peace and one with nature. The Mountains are calling, it is time to go OM.

We also are having a special opening and closing ceremony at our festival that are sure to connect our tribe.  Sound healing, daily hikes and tubing down the famous Battenkill River are sure to be festival attendee favorites not to mention the resident Alpaca and Goat Yoga classes that we will have going on at the event.

Now add to this all the wonderful incoming “OMers” who will be arriving. Each brings its own unique vibrant energy to the mix along with vendors, musicians, teachers, and farm-to-table cuisine all accompanied by nature exploration you cannot experience anywhere else in the world. This promises to be a one-of-a-kind, not to be missed retreat!

What offering/presenter or class are you most excited about for this year’s event?
Picking just one is next to impossible. That is like asking a parent which of their children they love the most! We are thrilled to have in our lineup, DJ Taz Rashid, DJ Ifa Halima Bumi, Jovie and The Honeysuckle, DJ Mark Longnecker, Shannon Roy, Flint Blade, Karina Skye, Shelley Herlihy, and Dana Kaplan, myself (Samantha Grout), Anthony Profeta, Janie Larmour, Jo Kirsh, Sudir Shah, Suzanne Gundersen, and Diane Rivera.  We are also adding more presenters as the festival nears and there is still time to apply to teach and or perform as applications are due by April 26th 2023.

If I had to choose one, I personally am very excited about world renowned  DJ Taz Rashid as one of our featured musicians. He brings a high vibrational energy to wellness and yoga events instantly with his mixed beats of love and rhythm. A mix of ancient new world, devotional, and house all in one massively powerful cosmic sound.

I am excited to dance, set my soul on fire, feel the energy of the crowd, and let the music take me away!  The Mountains are Calling. Time to go OM. See for yourself in Vermont this July.

Finding precious bonding time with your partner can be difficult. Whether you set aside 10 minutes a day to connect or schedule weekly date nights, quality time creates a sense of closeness and should not be overlooked. One way to better connect with your partner is practicing partner yoga. You can deepen your stretches and relationship, all while having fun, with a playful partner yoga practice.

Partner yoga helps foster communication and connection.  It also builds trust and teaches us how to physically and mentally let go. It’s a completely different experience than rolling out your own mat and practicing on your own in silence. These poses require two people to work together to get the biggest benefit.

The poses can range from simple seated twists that are great for beginners to Acro poses that require a good amount of strength and flexibility. Whether you’re looking for a simple stretch to try or a challenging pose that’ll require a lot of mutual effort, read on below for three different partner yoga poses to try!

Seated Spinal Twist

This is a great “ice-breaker” partner pose because it is simple and everyone can practice it!

  • Both parties start seated cross legged, back to back
  • Both parties extend their arms into a T-shape and twist to the right holding the left knee of your partner and the left hand rests on your own right knee. Repeat twisting to the left.

Lizard on a Rock

This pose is a little more complex but both students get a great stretch.

  • Student #1 starts in child’s pose
  • Student #2 sits sacrum to sacrum on Student #1 and extends backwards.
  • Student #2 extends arms overhead and Student #1 grabs their wrists for a deep stretch
  • Student #2 can extend their legs as well to get a full body stretch if comfortable
  • Switch positions

Down Dog / L-Shape Handstand

This is a classic partner pose that’s fun and playful and goes upside down!

  • Student #1 starts in downward dog
  • Student #2 places feet outside Student #1 hands and then places their hands on the floor
  • Student #2 takes one foot at a time onto Student #1’s sacrum (the triangular bone between the pelvic bones). Student #2 is in an L-Shape Position.
  • Student #2 has the option to lift up one foot and then the other as if practicing L-Shaped Handstand at the wall
  • Switch Positions

Thank you to our partners at  YogaRenew Teacher Training for sharing this fun sequence with our community!
